BAKED CREAM CHEESE JALAPENO POPPERS

Baked Cream Cheese Jalapeno Poppers image

For some reason I thought this recipe called for sausage, and I added a pound of sausage to the mixture. I ended up with a lot more filling than I had jalapenos (I'll post the recipe as listed). Overall, these are super fast and easy and taste terrific Watch out for jalapeno hands. I always say I'll wear gloves this time...never do and regret it as I get it in my eyes and everywhere else. Time 35m

Yield 24 jalapeno popper halves, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
1 1/2 tablespoons taco seasoning mix
12 jalapeno peppers, halved lengthwise and seeded
2 tablespoons fine breadcrumbs (to taste)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. (I just use a large 9x11 glass baking dish and don't line anything--nothing sticks).
  • Blend cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and taco seasoning together in a bowl and spread into jalapeno halves an arrange on prepared baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle bread crumbs over the cheese filling.
  • Bake until the peppers are just tender, 20 to 30 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right peppers: Select firm and plump jalapeño peppers that are deep green in color and have no signs of blemishes. Larger peppers will hold more filling, while smaller peppers will be spicier.
  • Use gloves when handling peppers: The oils from jalapeños can irritate your skin, so it's best to wear gloves when preparing them. If you do get any oils on your skin, wash it thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Remove the seeds and ribs from the peppers: To reduce the spiciness of the peppers, you can remove the seeds and ribs. Use a sharp knife to slice the peppers in half lengthwise and then scoop out the seeds and ribs with a spoon.
  • Use a variety of fillings: Cream cheese is a classic filling for jalapeño poppers, but you can also use other fillings such as shredded chicken, ground beef, or even shrimp. Get creative and experiment with different flavors.
  • Bread the peppers: Breading the peppers will help them to stay crispy in the oven. You can use a simple breadcrumb coating or a more elaborate coating made with flour, eggs, and breadcrumbs.
  • Bake the peppers until they are golden brown: Bake the peppers in a preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Conclusion:

Baked cream cheese jalapeño poppers are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. With a variety of fillings and coatings to choose from, you can easily customize them to your own taste. So next time you're looking for a tasty snack, give baked cream cheese jalapeño poppers a try.
