Tips:
- Mise en Place: Before you start baking, ensure all your ingredients are measured and ready. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling to find ingredients while you're in the middle of baking.
- Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Dairy products and eggs should be at room temperature before you start baking. This helps them incorporate smoothly into the batter and creates a more consistent texture.
- Creaming Butter and Sugar Thoroughly: This step is crucial for creating a light and fluffy cake. Cream the butter and sugar together until they are light and airy, and the sugar has dissolved completely.
- Gradually Add the Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time to the batter, beating well after each addition. This helps prevent the batter from curdling.
- Do Not Overmix the Batter: Overmixing the batter can result in a tough, dense cake. Mix the batter until just combined, then stop.
- Bake the Cake at the Right Temperature: Ovens can vary, so it's important to use an oven thermometer to ensure your oven is at the correct temperature before baking the cake.
- Allow the Cake to Cool Completely: Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help prevent the frosting from melting.
