BACON SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Bacon Spaghetti Sauce image

This is my dad's famous spaghetti recipe that uses bacon instead of ground beef. It has a sweet flavor to it and is very different from the usual spaghetti sauce. You have to try it!

Categories     Sauces

Time 35m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 chopped sweet onion (Vidalia)
1 lb uncooked bacon
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can stewed tomatoes (drained)
1 (10 ounce) jar ragu spaghetti sauce (use whatever flavor suites you)
1 (3 7/8 ounce) can mushrooms (drained)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Chop bacon strips into about 1 inch (or smaller) pieces.
  • Using a large skillet, heat the bacon on med/high until cooked but do NOT let it get crispy! (about 7 min.).
  • Add the chopped onions, mushrooms and stewed tomatoes and let sauté for about 5 minutes.
  • Turn heat down to low.
  • Add the Ragu, brown sugar, and seasonings.
  • Let simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Stir occasionally.

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of bacon: Use a good quality, thick-cut bacon for the best flavor.
  • Cook the bacon properly: Cook the bacon until it is crispy but not burnt. This will give the sauce a smoky, bacon-y flavor.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Feel free to add other vegetables to the sauce, such as onions, carrots, celery, or mushrooms.
  • Simmer the sauce for a while: Let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, or longer if you have time. This will help the flavors to develop and meld together.
  • Serve the sauce over your favorite pasta: Spaghetti is a classic choice, but you can also use penne, rigatoni, or any other type of pasta that you like.

Conclusion:

This bacon spaghetti sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover bacon. The sauce is flavorful and versatile, and it can be served over your favorite pasta or used as a dipping sauce for breadsticks or vegetables. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can have a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
