ASIAGO BACO BUNS

Here is a recipe that I came up with when wanting a bacon and cheese type bread but not wanting to use bacon. I always make buns but you could, of course, make a standard loaf of bread with it if you like. I always use the bread machine for the kneading then form and bake in the oven.

Tips:

  • To make the perfect bun dough, use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. This will help you achieve a smooth and elastic dough.
  • Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature before adding it to the dough. This will help it incorporate more easily and evenly.
  • Knead the dough for at least 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic. This will help develop the gluten in the dough and make it strong and chewy.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  • While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Cook the bacon until it is crispy, and then chop it into small pieces. Shred the Asiago cheese.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece of dough into a ball and place it on a greased baking sheet.
