Categories     Breakfast

Time 25m

Yield 12 muffins, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, beaten
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup butter, melted
crystal sugar

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Spray muffin tins with nonstick spray.
  • Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.
  • Mix in beaten eggs, applesauce and melted butter. (by hand, do not need mixer).
  • Evenly scoop mixture into muffin pans.
  • Sprinkle crystal sugar sprinkles on tops of muffins.
  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Test to see if toothpick comes out clean.

Tips:

  • For a moist and flavorful muffin, use ripe apples. Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples are good choices.
  • If you don't have applesauce, you can make your own by cooking peeled and chopped apples with a little water and sugar until soft. Then, mash them until smooth.
  • To make sure your muffins are evenly cooked, fill the muffin cups to the top. If you only fill them halfway, the muffins will be dry and crumbly.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the muffins tough.
  • To prevent the muffins from sticking to the pan, grease the muffin cups or use paper liners.
  • If you want a crispy muffin top, sprinkle the tops with sugar before baking.
  • Store leftover muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Conclusion:

Apple muffins are a classic breakfast treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They're easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like them plain or with a variety of toppings, apple muffins are a delicious and satisfying way to start your day.
