8 apples (depending on size)
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Serving suggestion: Fresh whipped cream or ice cream

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Melt the butter in a medium-sized bowl in the microwave.
  • Mix in the salt, flour, sugar, and vanilla extract with a fork until the ingredients form a crumbly, damp dough.
  • Crumble the streusel over the top of the apple slices.
  • Bake in the preheated oven, uncovered for 35 minutes or until the top is browned and the apples are softened. Allow to cool for a few minutes and then serve with fresh whipped cream or ice cream.

SO EASY AND TASTY APPLE STREUSEL

So Easy and Tasty Apple Streusel image

"Crisp fall apples, tossed in cinnamon and baked with delicious streusel. Almost as good as pie, with half the calories and it's in the oven in 10 minutes! Plus, it can be served warm with ice cream, and the smaller size means it won't be there to tempt you later. Enough for a small mini casserole dish that will serve 3-4 people. Double the recipe for an 8x8 pan, quadruple it for a 9x13 pan". Unless you double the batch and use a bigger pan, in which case, it's a great breakfast topping for oatmeal! Enjoy! Adapted from Penzey's spices and the intro is what they said about the recipe. A little history: In baking and pastry making, the term streusel (a German word meaning "something scattered or sprinkled", from the verb streuen, akin to the English verb 'strew') refers to a crumb topping of butter, flour, and white sugar (traditional German) that is baked on top of muffins, breads, and cakes (e.g. Streuselkuchen). Some modern recipes add various spices and occasionally chopped nutmeats. Although the topping is of German origin, it is sometimes referred to as Danish or Swedish.

Yield 3-4 , 3-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 large fall apples (Cortland or McIntosh are both great)
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup cold butter (4 tbls. or 1/4 cup)
1/2 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Steps:

APPLE STREUSEL SPICE BLEND

Apple Streusel Spice Blend image

If there is a better way to use freeze-dried apples, we haven't seen it. When ground, they infuse this sugar-cinnamon-nut mixture with the taste of fresh apples. (Try subbing freeze-dried peaches for the apples for a summery tasting streusel.) Be sure to pulse the nuts in short bursts or the released nut oil will make the mix wet, pasty and hard to sprinkle.

Provided by Cooking Channel

Time 35m

Yield about 1/2 cup

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/3 cup pecan halves
1/3 cup crumbled freeze-dried apples
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch freshly grated nutmeg
Small pinch kosher salt

Steps:

  • Position an oven rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees. Put the pecans on a rimmed baking sheet and toast, stirring occasionally, until lightly fragrant and a smidge darker, 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • Meanwhile, add the apples to a spice grinder and grind to a fine powder. Transfer to a small bowl.
  • Add the cooled pecans to the spice grinder and pulse until they are the texture of very coarse cornmeal. Be careful not to grind them into a paste.
  • Transfer the pecans to the bowl with the ground apples. Add the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Stir to combine. Keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

SPICED STREUSEL SOUR CREAM APPLE PIE

Spiced Streusel Sour Cream Apple Pie image

Wonderful spice flavor that's always nice in a holiday pie! Even though it is relatively simple to make, the streusel topping can be made a day ahead for even easier preparation. Served with vanilla ice cream, it rounds out the perfect meal and definitely delivers the 'Wow!" factor.

Time 1h15m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

2/3 cup walnuts
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup yellow cornmeal
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled, cut into small pieces
2 1/4 lbs granny smith apples, peeled, quartered, cored, cut into 1/2-inch-thick wedges (about 6 medium)
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 prepared pie crust

Steps:

  • For streusel topping: Combine nuts, brown sugar, cornmeal, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in food processor and pulse on/off until nuts are finely chopped. Add butter and process until small moist clumps form. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.).
  • For filling: Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 375 degrees. Toss apples with sour cream in large bowl to coat. Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a small bowl. Sprinkle mixture over apples and toss to coat.
  • Transfer filling to prepared crust. Sprinkle streusel topping over apples, covering completely. Bake pie until apples are tender and streusel is golden, tenting pie if streusel browns too quickly, about 1 hour. Transfer pie to rack and cool slightly.
  • Serve pie slightly warm or at room temperature (and definitely with some vanilla ice cream!).

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples: Different types of apples offer unique flavors and textures, so using a mix will create a more complex and interesting streusel.
  • Peel and core the apples: This will help to prevent the streusel from becoming too mushy.
  • Slice the apples thinly: This will help them to cook evenly.
  • Combine the apples with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg: These spices will enhance the natural flavor of the apples.
  • Make the streusel topping: Combine flour, sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a bowl until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the streusel topping over the apples: Make sure the apples are evenly coated.
  • Bake the streusel: Bake the streusel in a preheated oven until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Let the streusel cool slightly before serving: This will help the streusel to hold its shape.

Conclusion:

Apple streusel spice blend is a versatile and flavorful mix that can be used to create a variety of delicious desserts. It is perfect for pies, cakes, muffins, and crisps. The warm and inviting spices in the blend, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, complement the natural sweetness of the apples and create a truly indulgent treat. Whether you are a seasoned baker or just starting out, apple streusel spice blend is a must-have ingredient that will help you create delicious desserts that your family and friends will love.
