Indulge in the delightful aroma of cinnamon and baked apples wafting through your kitchen as you prepare a wholesome and delectable breakfast treat. Apple Cinnamon Overnight French Toast is a culinary symphony that combines the classic flavors of French toast with the comforting essence of autumn. This recipe presents two enticing variations: a traditional stovetop method and a hassle-free slow cooker version.

For the traditionalists, the stovetop method offers a hands-on approach, allowing you to witness the transformation of eggy bread into golden-brown perfection. Simply whisk together eggs, milk, and spices, dunk your bread slices, and fry them in a hot skillet until they reach that irresistible crispy exterior and fluffy interior.

If you prefer a laid-back approach, the slow cooker version has you covered. Let your kitchen appliance do the work while you catch up on some well-deserved rest. Toss your bread cubes in the flavorful egg mixture, transfer them to the slow cooker, and allow them to soak up all that goodness overnight. In the morning, you'll wake up to a warm and comforting breakfast that's ready to be devoured.

Each variation promises a unique textural experience. The stovetop method yields a crispy outer layer that gives way to a soft and tender inside, while the slow cooker version results in a casserole-like dish with a custard-like texture. Both methods deliver a symphony of flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.

The apple cinnamon filling adds a burst of sweetness and a touch of autumnal charm to this classic dish. Sautéed apples and cinnamon blend seamlessly, creating a filling that complements the eggy bread perfectly. Feel free to experiment with different apple varieties to add your own twist to this recipe.

Whether you're a traditionalist or a fan of slow cooker convenience, Apple Cinnamon Overnight French Toast has something for everyone. It's a delightful breakfast option that's perfect for busy mornings, lazy weekends, or special occasions. Gather your ingredients, choose your preferred method, and embark on a culinary journey that will leave you craving more.

2 cups dark brown sugar
8 eggs
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup half & half
3 tablespoons maple syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier

Uncover the casserole dish and bake for approximately 40-45 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality bread: A sturdy bread like brioche or challah will hold up well to the overnight soaking and cooking.
  • Don't skimp on the butter: Butter adds flavor and richness to the French toast, so don't be afraid to use a generous amount.
  • Use fresh apples: Fresh apples will give the French toast the best flavor and texture.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the French toast, don't overcrowd the pan. This will help the French toast cook evenly and prevent it from becoming soggy.
  • Serve immediately: French toast is best served immediately after it is cooked. This will help it stay crispy and flavorful.

Conclusion:

This overnight French toast recipe is a delicious and easy way to start your day. The apples and cinnamon add a warm and cozy flavor, while the overnight soaking makes the bread extra tender and flavorful.
