Tips:

  • Choose the best squash: Look for butternut squash that is firm and heavy for its size, with smooth, unblemished skin. Avoid squash that has soft spots or bruises.
  • Prepare the squash properly: Cut the squash in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds and pulp. Brush the cut sides with melted butter or olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Use a variety of apples: This recipe calls for a mix of sweet and tart apples. Some good choices include Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Pink Lady.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When roasting the squash and apples, make sure they are in a single layer in the pan. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Roast until tender: The squash and apples should be tender when pierced with a fork. This will usually take about 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Serve immediately: Once the squash and apples are roasted, serve them immediately. They can be topped with a variety of things, such as butter, maple syrup, or chopped nuts.

Conclusion:

Apple-baked squash is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as a side dish or a main course. It is a great way to use up seasonal produce, and it is also a healthy and satisfying meal. With its sweet and savory flavors, this dish is sure to please everyone at the table.
