I found this recipe on FB as posted by Emily Berkman. This is quickly becoming a favorite of ours. If this has been posted before I'm sorry to duplicate, but I couldn't find it. I'm sure this could also be made more healthy by using low-fat mayo and sour cream.....There is a picture on FB, but I'm having a hard time trying to...

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 1

1 head broccoli, chopped 1 head cauliflower, chopped 1 cup mayonnaise 1 cup sour cream 1/2 cup sugar- can use substitute as well 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 pound bacon, fried and crumbled 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese.

Steps:

  • 1. Chop broccoli & cauliflower. Fry bacon and crumble it and save some to sprinkle on top. Shred the cheese saving some to sprinkle on top. In a bowl, combine the sugar, salt, add the rest of the ingredients and mix until well combined. Sprinkle remaining cheese and bacon on top and chill salad for about 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to mingle.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh and crisp broccoli: Fresh broccoli florets will give your salad the best flavor and texture. Look for broccoli that is deep green in color and has tightly closed florets.
  • Use high-quality mayonnaise: Mayonnaise is one of the main ingredients in Amish broccoli salad, so it's important to use a high-quality brand. Look for mayonnaise that is made with real eggs and oil, and avoid brands that contain artificial ingredients.
  • Don't overcook the broccoli: Broccoli should be cooked until it is tender-crisp. Overcooked broccoli will be mushy and lose its flavor.
  • Shred the cheese finely: Shredded cheese will distribute more evenly throughout the salad and will melt more easily.
  • Chill the salad before serving: Amish broccoli salad is best served chilled. This will help the flavors to meld together and will make the salad more refreshing.
