3 cups Sacramento tomato juice
2 (8-ounce) bottles clam juice, such Bumble Bee
1/2 teaspoon grated lime zest
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (3 to 4 limes)
2 teaspoons wasabi powder
2 teaspoons Tabasco Chipotle Pepper Sauce (see Cook's Note)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup good vodka, such as Grey Goose
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning
1 lime wedge, plus 6 lime slices, for garnish
18 large pimento-stuffed olives, such as Sable and Rosenfeld
6 cooked and peeled jumbo shrimp, with tails on

Steps:

  • In a large pitcher, stir together the tomato juice, clam juice, and lime zest. In a small glass measuring cup, whisk together the lime juice and wasabi powder and add to the pitcher. Stir in the Tabasco, Worcestershire, vodka, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper.
  • Spread the Old Bay Seasoning on a small plate. Moisten the rims of six highball glasses by running a lime wedge around the edge of each glass and dip the rims in the Old Bay Seasoning. Set aside to dry.

AL'S BLOODY MARYS

Al's Bloody Marys image

Al was my stepdad, who was a wonderful man and a great cook! One of his specialties was his Bloody Mary, and no matter how many pitchers he prepared for company, they always wanted more. My only modification has been to add a bit of horseradish. This is a great brunch beverage, but various friends always ask if I'll please make 'Al's Bloodys' when they come for dinner.

THE ORIGINAL MIX CLASSIC BLOODY MARY (A K A THE RED SNAPPER)

The Original Mix Classic Bloody Mary (a k a the Red Snapper) image

Fernand Petiot, who was the bartender at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the 1930s, took credit for zapping tomato juice and vodka with Worcestershire sauce, lemon, salt and pepper. He moved to the King Cole Bar in the St. Regis Hotel in 1964, and renamed the cocktail the Red Snapper (the St. Regis wanted a classier name than Bloody Mary).

Yield Serves 1

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 ounces of tomato juice
1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
1 dash of lemon juice
2 drops of Tabasco
1 dash of pepper (to taste)
1 dash of salt (to taste)
1 1/2 ounces of Grey Goose vodka
1 dash of celery salt
smidgen of horseradish

Steps:

  • Shake and pour into a tall glass filled one-third with ice, garnish with green olives, and upsy-daisy. If that doesn't work, light three candles, take a cold shower, drink hot coffee, lie flat, and moan. And next time, try to behave.
  • Begin by turning on music best suited for the occasion of a near-death hangover. A dirge is always nice. Then in a cocktail shaker, and, for those who like a kick in the head, a smidgen of horseradish.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, juicy tomatoes: The fresher the tomatoes, the better your Bloody Mary will be. Look for tomatoes that are deep red in color and have no blemishes.
  • Use a variety of spices: Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices to find the perfect combination for your taste. Some common spices used in Bloody Marys include celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Add some heat: If you like your Bloody Marys spicy, add a dash of hot sauce or cayenne pepper. You can also add a slice of jalapeño or serrano pepper to the glass.
  • Garnish your Bloody Mary: A Bloody Mary is not complete without a garnish. Some popular garnishes include celery stalks, olives, pickles, and bacon. You can also get creative and use other garnishes, such as fruit, cheese, or herbs.

Conclusion:

The Bloody Mary is a classic cocktail that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a refreshing and flavorful drink that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you are hosting a brunch, a party, or just relaxing at home, a Bloody Mary is sure to be a hit.
