This is by far the best all purpose cleaner I've found. It is fabulous on windows and mirrors, degreases wonderfully, and cuts gunk on sinks etc. and shines, shines, shines. I use it for everything but wood.

EARTH SCRUB (A GREEN "SOFT SCRUB") ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER

Earth Scrub (a green

This is a great "soft scrub" for counters, sinks, tubs, shower stalls, etc. You can optionally add an essential oil to scent. (I use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castille soap, so I don't need any extra scent.) It's important to use liquid soap, not detergent, because detergent makes it much harder to rinse. Castille soap is best; it's available at health food stores. It's great to use this and know you're saving money while being kind to your lungs and the planet at the same time! I got this recipe from Karen Logan's book, Clean House, Clean Planet (a great book!). You can add a few drops of tea tree oil to make it disinfectant and use it for a toilet bowl cleaner.

Time 5m

Yield 16 oz. bottle

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 2/3 cups baking soda
1/2 cup liquid soap
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons white vinegar

Steps:

  • Stir liquid soap into baking soda.
  • Add the water, and stir to be as smooth as possible.
  • Add the vinegar and stir again.
  • Pour into a squeeze bottle.
  • (A clean, empty ketchup or syrup bottle works well.) Shake well before using, and keep tightly closed between uses.

Tips:

  • Vinegar and Water: Mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle to create a non-toxic, all-purpose cleaner. It's great for cutting through grease and grime.
  • Baking Soda Paste: Combine baking soda and water to form a thick paste. Apply it to surfaces and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it away. This paste is perfect for cleaning ovens, sinks, and shower tiles.
  • Lemon Juice and Olive Oil: Mix lemon juice and olive oil in equal parts to create a natural furniture polish. It's gentle on wood and leaves a beautiful shine.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide and Water: Combine hydrogen peroxide and water in a 1:1 ratio to create a disinfectant. Use it to clean countertops, doorknobs, and other surfaces. It's also effective at removing stains from clothing and carpets.
  • Essential Oils: Add a few drops of essential oils to your cleaning solutions to give them a fresh scent. Tea tree oil is a great choice for its antibacterial and antiviral properties.

Conclusion:

These are just a few of the many natural and effective all-purpose cleaners that you can make at home. By using these recipes, you can reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals and save money. So next time you need to clean your home, reach for one of these natural cleaners instead of a harsh chemical cleaner.
