Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 lb whole fryer chicken ((3-4 lb chicken is best - I recommend no more than 4 lbs in the Vortex Plus))
2 Tbsp olive oil ((extra virgin))
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 lemon ((zested and quartered))
each, salt & pepper ((to taste))

Steps:

  • Prepare your chicken by ensuring that the inner cavity is clean and giblets are removed. Place chicken on a clean cutting board.
  • Combine seasoning ingredients (paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, lemon zest) in a small bowl and set aside.
  • Trim the tail from your chicken, if desired, as well as any excess fat. Stuff the lemon quarters into the body cavity, then coat the chicken with olive oil and rub the seasoning into the skin.
  • Use kitchen twine to truss the chicken so that the legs and wings do not flap while rotating on the rotisserie function.
  • Push the rotisserie spit through the chicken and secure with the rotisserie forks on each end. Line your drip tray with aluminum foil (for easier cleanup).
  • Set the air fryer to 380 degrees F (193 degrees C) and select either 'air fry' or 'roast'. *I recommend the air fry option for crispier skin. Set the time for 40 minutes.
  • When your air fryer is preheated and indicates to 'add food' load the left side of your rotisserie spit in the vortex plus first, pressing the red lever. Then slide the right side along the metal bar until it drops down into the catch and is securely in place.
  • Close the door and cook for 40 minutes. Check the internal temperature of your chicken using a meat thermometer. Cook for an additional 5 minutes at a time, if needed, until the safe internal temperature of 165 degrees F (74 degrees C) is reached.
  • Use the Vortex Plus y-rod to remove the chicken, pressing the red lever to release the rotisserie spit. Transfer the cooked chicken to a cutting board or plate and cover loosely with aluminum foil for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Air-Fryer Rotisserie Chicken image

Replicate the flavor, lovely burnished skin and moist texture of a classic rotisserie chicken with this easy recipe for cooking a whole chicken in your air fryer. With just a handful of ingredients and 10 minutes of active time, you get a roast chicken with lemon and herbs that's a remarkable doppelganger for a deli chicken right after it comes out of the rotisserie--before it gets shriveled and dried out from sitting in the deli's holding case for hours. Serve this chicken with your favorite veggie sides for a healthy weeknight dinner or weekend supper. And if you're hosting a dinner party, cooking your main course in the air fryer is also a great way free up oven space for casseroles, rolls and other dishes.

Time 2h

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 medium chicken
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp paprika, sweet mild
1/2 tsp thyme, dried
1 sprig(s) rosemary sprigs
1 stalk(s) sage leaves, fresh
1/2 medium lemon
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp olive oil

Steps:

  • 1. First, rinse chicken and rub dry. Make sure to dry it or you will have a steamed chicken and it will not crisp.
  • 2. Rub with olive oil and season the chicken all over. Let sit at room temperature for 45 minutes before cooking.
  • 3. Next, squeeze your lemon inside the chicken and add the butter before tying shut. You will need to tie your chicken up with kitchen string. I pre-wet mine, then I tie 2 strips around the whole chicken to pull it kinda tight so it has room to rotate on the rotisserie and holds together well.
  • 4. Get out the rotisserie skewer and slide the chicken on it next slide the ends on both ends. If your air fryer doesn't have a rotisserie skewer, you can place it in the fry basket and still cook it the same. Place the chicken breast side down in the fry basket.
  • 5. Next, follow directions on your fryer for setting it to cook. I set mine to the Rotisserie settings temp 350, cook time 1 hour. For this chicken, I cooked it 1 hour and 30 minutes but I checked it at 1 hour.
  • 6. Test the chicken with a thermometer for proper doneness (165 degrees). Let rest for 20 minutes before serving. If you do not have fresh herbs, use dried and adjust the amounts a little less for your flavor choice.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Chicken: Select a whole chicken that's about 3-4 pounds. A larger chicken may not fit in the air fryer basket.
  • Prepare the Chicken: Rinse the chicken inside and out, then pat it dry. Remove any excess fat or skin, and tie the legs together.
  • Season the Chicken: Rub the chicken with olive oil, salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. You can also use a store-bought rotisserie chicken seasoning blend.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for about 5 minutes before cooking the chicken.
  • Cook the Chicken: Place the chicken in the air fryer basket and cook for about 25 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Baste the Chicken: Baste the chicken with melted butter or olive oil every 10-15 minutes to keep it moist and flavorful.
  • Let the Chicken Rest: Once the chicken is cooked, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving and serving.

Conclusion:

Making rotisserie chicken in an air fryer is a quick, easy, and delicious way to enjoy this classic dish. With just a few simple steps, you can have a perfectly cooked, flavorful chicken that's perfect for any occasion. Serve it with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or salad, and enjoy a delicious, healthy meal.
