Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

Nonstick cooking spray
1 pound large shrimp (16/20 count), peeled and deveined, tails on
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons chopped pickled jalapenos
2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon hot sauce
1 scallion, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • For the fried shrimp: Spray the basket of a 3.5-quart air fryer with cooking spray and set aside. Pat the shrimp dry between a couple paper towels, then season with a pinch of salt and a few grinds of black pepper.
  • Whisk the flour with 3/4 teaspoon salt and few grinds of pepper in a shallow bowl or baking dish. Whisk the eggs with a pinch of salt in another shallow bowl. Add the panko to a third shallow bowl. Dip a shrimp in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess, then dip in the beaten eggs. Dredge in the panko, turning until evenly coated. Transfer to a large plate or a rimmed baking sheet and repeat with the remaining shrimp.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 385 degrees F. Working in batches, place some of the shrimp in a single layer in the fryer basket, then spray lightly with more cooking spray. Cook until the shrimp are golden brown and cooked through, flipping halfway through, about 10 minutes.
  • For the spicy remoulade sauce: Meanwhile, stir together the mayonnaise, pickled jalapenos, mustard, ketchup, hot sauce and scallion in a small bowl until smooth. Serve with the fried shrimp for dipping.

AIR FRYER BANG BANG SHRIMP

Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp image

This is my take on a popular dish from a restaurant chain. My version is made in an air fryer instead of being deep-fried. The end result was perfectly crispy sweet and spicy shrimp.

Tips:

  • For perfectly crispy shrimp, ensure your shrimp is well coated in panko breadcrumbs before air frying. You can achieve this by first dredging the shrimp in flour or cornstarch, then dipping it in egg wash, and finally coating it in the panko breadcrumb mixture.
  • Use large shrimp for this recipe. Smaller shrimp will cook too quickly and become tough.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Leave some space between the shrimp so that they can cook evenly.
  • Cook the shrimp in a single layer for best results. If you need to cook more shrimp, do it in batches.
  • Shake the air fryer basket halfway through cooking to ensure that the shrimp cooks evenly.
  • Serve the shrimp immediately with your favorite dipping sauce. Some popular choices include tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or lemon-butter sauce.

Conclusion:

Air fryer panko shrimp is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. It is a healthier alternative to traditional fried shrimp, as it is cooked with little to no oil. The shrimp is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and it is coated in a flavorful panko breadcrumb mixture. This recipe is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
