7-LAYER PASTA SALAD RECIPE - (4.6/5)

7-Layer Pasta Salad Recipe - (4.6/5) image

Provided by carmen-2

Number Of Ingredients 14

Kosher salt
8 ounces farfalle (about 4 cups)
2 stalks broccoli, cut into florets
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Juice of 1 lime
Freshly ground pepper
2 avocados, diced
1 12-ounce piece deli ham, diced (about 2 cups)
8 ounces yellow cheddar cheese, shredded
1 small head romaine lettuce, sliced
2 tomatoes, diced

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente (about 2 minutes less than the label directs), adding the broccoli during the last 4 minutes of cooking. Drain the pasta and broccoli and rinse under cool water; shake off the excess. Remove the broccoli and pat dry. Whisk the mayonnaise, buttermilk, 1/4 cup chives, the parsley, half of the lime juice, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and pepper to taste. Toss the pasta and a few tablespoons of the dressing in a medium bowl. Assemble the salad: Toss the avocados with the remaining lime juice in a large glass serving bowl and season with salt; arrange in an even layer. Top with layers of the ham, broccoli, pasta, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Drizzle some of the remaining dressing on top and sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon chives, or cover and refrigerate the salad and dressing separately up to 6 hours. SPICY ENGLISH SEVEN-LAYER SALAD

Spicy English Seven-Layer Salad image

This seven-layer salad takes some inspiration from the salads they sell at Boots (pasta shells and julienned carrots) and some inspiration from my grandmother (curry powder and brown sugar). This makes a really refreshing, flavorful salad that I simply love and that my friends request at barbeques!

Tips:

  • Prep Work: Before you start assembling the salad, make sure all the ingredients are prepped and ready to go. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions, let it cool completely, and then store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  • Don't Overcook the Pasta: Al dente pasta is the best choice for this salad, as it will hold its shape and texture better when tossed with the other ingredients. Overcooked pasta will become mushy and break apart.
  • Use Fresh Vegetables: Fresh, crisp vegetables will give your salad the best flavor and texture. Avoid using wilted or limp vegetables.
  • Layer Wisely: When assembling the salad, layer the ingredients in a specific order. Start with the heavier ingredients, such as the pasta, on the bottom, and work your way up to the lighter ingredients, such as the lettuce, on top. This will help to prevent the salad from becoming soggy.
  • Chill Before Serving: After assembling the salad, chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will help the flavors to meld and the salad to set.
