Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 13

2½ cups rolled oats
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter (at room temperature)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
4 ounces milk chocolate (grated or finely chopped)
1½ cups chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line three baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Blend the oats in a food processor or blender to a fine powder. In a medium bowl, whisk together the blended oats with the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together the butter and both sugars until light and fluffy, 3-4 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and beat in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, beating just until incorporated. With a rubber spatula, fold in the chocolate chips, grated chocolate and walnuts.
  • Roll the dough into 2-ounce balls (or about 2 heaping tablespoonfuls worth) and place about 2 inches apart on the baking sheets. Bake one sheet at a time until the edges are set but the center still looks undone, about 10 minutes. Cool the cookies completely on the baking sheets. The cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days (they can also be frozen for up to 2 months).

THE $250 COOKIE RECIPE

The $250 Cookie Recipe image

Almost everybody has heard the one about the woman lunching at the Neiman Marcus Cafe in Dallas, who enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies so much that she asked for the recipe. For "only two-fifty," the waitress said, it was hers. But when the credit card bill arrived, the woman found the total near $300. Turns out the recipe cost $250, the story goes. In 1997, after years of enduring the myth, Neiman Marcus came up with a recipe - and gave it out for free. It's a delicious variation on chocolate chip cookies, using ground oatmeal, nuts and adding extra chocolate with a grated Hershey bar (you can use any brand you love).

Time 36m

Yield 9 dozen, 108 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 cups butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
2 tablespoons vanilla
4 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups oatmeal (measure, then blend to a fine powder in blender or food processor)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
24 ounces chocolate chips
1 (8 ounce) Hershey Bars, grated
3 cups chopped nuts
2/3 cup heath toffee pieces (optional)

Steps:

  • Cream butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, and mix well.
  • Combine flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder & baking soda. Mix into butter mixture.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Roll into balls & place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.
  • Bake 6 minutes at 375 degrees.
  • Dough may be frozen in balls, then thawed & cooked.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the taste of your cookies. Look for butter that is at least 82% butterfat, and use real vanilla extract instead of imitation.
  • Make sure your butter is cold. This will help the cookies hold their shape better. If your butter is too warm, the cookies will spread out too much in the oven.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the cookies tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before baking. This will help the cookies keep their shape and will also make them easier to handle.
  • Bake the cookies at a high temperature. This will help them rise and brown properly. The ideal baking temperature is 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before frosting. This will help the frosting set properly.

Conclusion:

These Neiman Marcus cookies are a delicious and decadent treat that is perfect for any occasion. They are sure to be a hit with your friends and family. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make these cookies at home. So what are you waiting for? Give this recipe a try today!
