Tips:

  • Choose fresh, firm zucchini: Look for zucchini that is deep green in color and has smooth, unblemished skin. Avoid zucchini that is yellow or has soft spots.
  • Slice the zucchini evenly: This will help them cook evenly. If you are using a mandoline, be sure to use the guard to protect your fingers.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the zucchini, be sure to leave enough space between the slices so that they can cook evenly.
  • Cook the zucchini until it is tender but still has a slight crunch: Overcooked zucchini will be mushy and bland.
  • Use a good quality miso paste: The miso paste is what gives this dish its umami flavor. Be sure to use a miso paste that is made with whole soybeans and has a deep, rich flavor.
  • Serve the zucchini miso immediately: This dish is best served fresh out of the pan. However, you can also make it ahead of time and reheat it gently before serving.

Conclusion:

Zucchini miso is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer, side dish, or main course. It is also a great way to use up fresh zucchini from your garden. With its simple ingredients and easy preparation, this dish is sure to become a favorite.
