APPLE-CRANBERRY SAUCE

CRANBERRY APPLESAUCE

Cranberry Applesauce image

A wonderful compliment to many dishes. Also a great side for the "2013 Thanksgiv-ukkah", as it goes very well with Recipe #509834. Super easy to make and yummy. I hope you enjoy this recipe.

Provided by rosie316

Categories     Apple

Time 50m

Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups cranberries (fresh or frozen, thawed)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup manischewitz concord grape wine
4 large granny smith apples

Steps:

  • In a medium sauce pan, combine cranberries, spices, sugar and wine. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, peel and core apples and cut into 1/2" cubes, and add to the cranberry mixture after the original 20 minutes of simmering and mix well. Cover the sauce pan and continue to simmer an additional 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If sauce begins to stick, add a small amount of water.
  • Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose firm, ripe cranberries for the best flavor and texture.
  • Rinse the cranberries thoroughly before using to remove any dirt or debris.
  • If you don't have fresh cranberries, you can use frozen cranberries. Just thaw them before using.
  • Peel and core the apples before cooking them. This will help to create a smoother applesauce.
  • Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and McIntosh.
  • Add sugar or honey to taste. The amount of sugar you need will depend on the sweetness of the apples and cranberries.
  • Cook the applesauce over low heat until it reaches your desired consistency. If you want a thicker applesauce, cook it for longer.
  • Serve the applesauce warm or cold. It can be enjoyed on its own, or used as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or yogurt.

Conclusion:

Zippy Cranberry Applesauce is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's a great way to use up leftover cranberries and apples, and it's also a healthy and nutritious snack. With its sweet and tangy flavor, this applesauce is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
