Steps:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, or in a large bowl with a hand-held mixer, mix all of the ingredients on low speed until it starts to come together.
- Increase speed to high and beat for 4-5 minutes until frosting is fluffy, pausing once or twice to scrape the bowl down.
- (Optional Step) The frosting will be very airy with lots of bubbles. To achieve a smooth frosting, beat it with a wooden spoon by hand for 2-3 minutes. This will push all of those air bubbles out.
- Use frosting as desired to cover cakes, cupcakes, cookies, etc. This is enough frosting for a double layer 8 or 9-inch cake, 2 dozen cupcakes, or 2 dozen 4-inch cookies.
- Store frosting at room temperature for 1-2 days, in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to several months.

Steps:
- 1. In a large bowl, mix Crisco and butter at high speed until smooth and fluffy (about three or four minutes).
- 2. Reduce mixer speed to low and add meringue powder.
- 3. Add extracts. Increase speed and blend for another minute.
- 4. Reduce mixer speed to low again and begin to add powdered sugar, one cup at a time. You will probably need to stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula to ensure all the powdered sugar gets blended.
- 5. Once all the powdered sugar has been added, check the consistency. You should be able to easily frost a cake without worrying that you are going to tear the cake or cause it to crumble. If it is too stiff, add the water and blend. I would start with half the water and see how it is before adding the rest of it. The humidity can really make this vary, so don't assume that what worked last time will work exactly the same again.
- 6. Your end result should be fluffy, smooth, tasty, and more than enough to frost a 9-inch round layer cake or a 9 X 13 cake.
SIMPLE AND DELICIOUS BUTTERCREAM FROSTING
I decided on a whim yesterday that I wanted to make cupcakes for Canada Day. I didn't have time to buy frosting before getting ready for the fireworks show, so I ended up making my own with ingredients I already had. I was shocked at how quick and easy this was! This basic vanilla recipe makes enough to cover a dozen cupcakes, but feel free to double it (for cakes), triple it, add food coloring or different flavor extracts. If you find this too sweet, you can add a dash of salt to the milk or the vanilla. Personally I like it sweet, and I used salted butter, so I didn't find it necessary.

Tips for a Perfect Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:
- Use unsalted butter at room temperature: This helps the frosting to be smooth and creamy.
- Make sure the butter is softened, not melted. Melted butter will make the frosting too thin.
- Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This will take a few minutes with a stand or hand mixer.
- Add the vanilla extract and salt. These ingredients will enhance the flavor of the frosting.
- Add the heavy cream one tablespoon at a time, beating until the frosting reaches the desired consistency.
- If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream. If the frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar.
- Use the frosting immediately or store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Conclusion:
Vanilla buttercream frosting is a classic frosting that is loved by people of all ages. It is perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other desserts. With the right ingredients and a little patience, you can easily make a delicious vanilla buttercream frosting at home.
