COCA COLA SLOPPY JOES

Coca Cola Sloppy Joes image

When we were kids, we always called these yip yips. I guess that is a Midwestern thing. I've been looking for a sloppy joe recipe that tasted like my mom's for years (she always just threw it together and I could never get the taste) and finally found it. Since we're Pepsi lovers, I substituted it for the Coca Cola.

These are a lot like what you all call Sloppy Joes--don't see much difference myself, but when I was a kid, my mom called them Yip Yips.

Time 1h10m

Yield 8 Yip Yips, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb ground beef
1 cup celery (chopped)
1 small onion
1 cup tomato sauce
1 cup catsup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef in skillet, stirring until crumbly; drain.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients (except cheese) Simmer for 1 hour or until vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve on hamburger buns; top with cheese, if desired.

Tips for Making Perfect Yip Yips:

  • Use High-Quality Ingredients: The key to delicious yip yips lies in using fresh, high-quality ingredients. Choose ripe bananas, smooth peanut butter, and creamy chocolate chips for the best flavor and texture.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter: Overmixing the batter can result in tough, dense yip yips. Mix just until the ingredients are combined, and be careful not to overbeat the eggs.
  • Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough before baking helps prevent the yip yips from spreading too much in the oven. This results in a more defined shape and a chewier texture.
  • Bake at the Right Temperature: The ideal baking temperature for yip yips is 350°F (175°C). This temperature allows the yip yips to bake evenly without burning.
  • Don't Overbake: Overbaking the yip yips can make them dry and crumbly. Bake them just until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.

Conclusion:

Yip yips are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With their simple ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions, these cookies are a great option for beginner bakers and experienced chefs alike. Whether you're looking for a sweet snack to enjoy with your family or a festive treat to serve at a party, yip yips are sure to be a hit.
