Similar to another recipe by the same name, this one has just a few tweaks. The other is on my list to try, hopefully I can combine the two to make the Best Cookies in the UNIVERSE - but only if I get to eat the results!

WORLD'S BEST COOKIES AKA THAT 70S ELUSIVE CORNFLAKE COOKIES
This wonderful recipe was in circulation when I was a kid in the 70s. Years later, a woman brought a tray of these to the office, which I instantly recognized as THOSE COOKIES FROM MY CHILDHOOD, and she refused to give me the recipe (said it was her babysitter's secret recipe)! I searched online (tried several recipes) and asked my friends and family off and on if they'd heard of it, for 10 years. I finally JUST found this online! They are SO GOOD! Bake them for your friends and family and share the recipe with the WORLD! Note, the number of cookies you get will vary - depending on how big you roll the balls.

THE WORLD'S BEST COOKIES
I had these fabulous cookies during a wine dinner weekend at an inn in Ogonquit Maine. The recipe is courtesy of the caterer, but they give credit to the San Francisco ala Carte, a cookbook by the Junior League of San Francisco, 1979.

WORLD'S BEST BUTTER COOKIES
I tested 8 different butter cookie recipes, looking for the "perfect" butter cookie. It had to be buttery, a little crumbly (like shortbread), and not too sweet. This is the winner. I think these are the Worlds Best Butter Cookie, courtesy of Chef Alice Medrich.

Steps:
- Beat the butter, sugar, salt and vanilla together until smooth and creamy.
- Mix in the egg yolk until well incorporated, scraping down the sides of the bowl at least once.
- Add the flour and mix just until incorporated.
- Scrape onto a lightly floured board and knead a few times, just until the dough smooths out.
- Turn onto a sheet of plastic wrap and roll into a log, wrap up and refrigerate for several hours or freeze.
- Before baking, preheat the oven to 325°F.
- Line your baking sheets with parchment.
- Slice the dough into slices about 1/8" thick and place them on the sheets about an inch apart (they won't be spreading very much, but they need air room around each cookie).
- Bake until JUST beginning to turn golden around the edges, about 16-18 minutes.
- Note: you can do many things with these cookies.
- You could roll the dough out and cut shapes.
- You could slice them even thinner and sandwich them with chocolate or jam or lemon curd.
- You could make them and then dip them half into chocolate.
- You could just make them and eat them, which is my favorite.
- Whatever you do, they will be delicious.

Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: This is especially important for the chocolate, butter, and flour. Good ingredients will result in better-tasting cookies.
- Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will help to incorporate air into the batter, which will make the cookies light and airy.
- Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing will develop the gluten in the flour, which will make the cookies tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
- Chill the dough before baking: This will help the cookies to hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much in the oven.
- Bake the cookies until they are just set: Overbaking will make the cookies dry and crumbly. The cookies should be slightly soft in the center when you remove them from the oven.
- Let the cookies cool completely before storing them: This will help to prevent them from becoming too soft or crumbly.
Conclusion:
These are just a few tips for making the best cookies. With a little practice, you'll be able to create delicious cookies that everyone will love. So what are you waiting for? Start baking!
