Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 c solid shortening (i use crisco)
1/2 c butter, softened
1 tsp clear vanilla extract
4 c sifted confectioner's sugar (approximately one pound)
2 Tbsp milk

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, beat shortening and butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla.
  • 2. Add sugar one cup at a time, beating after each addition on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. NOTE: By the time you have all of the sugar mixed in, the icing will appear very dry. This is normal.
  • 3. Gradually add in milk. Beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.

Tips:

  • Use unsalted butter: This ensures you have complete control over the amount of salt in your frosting.
  • Bring the butter to room temperature: This will make it easier to cream together with the sugar and achieve a smooth consistency.
  • Gradually add the confectioners' sugar: This will help prevent the frosting from becoming lumpy.
  • Use a stand mixer or hand mixer: This will make the process of creaming the butter and sugar together much easier.
  • Add flavorings and colorings gradually: This will help you achieve the desired flavor and color without overpowering the frosting.

Conclusion:

Wilton buttercream frosting is a versatile and delicious frosting that can be used to decorate cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking with different flavors and colors.
