2 each eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chewy Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Brownies image

An anytime good brownie! Found at All Recipes and made some tweaks.

Provided by Sharon Colyer

Categories     Other Snacks

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/3 c butter or margarine, softened
1/2 c white sugar
3/4 c packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
3/4 c peanut butter
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 Tbsp water
3/4 c whole wheat flour
1/4 c all-purpose flour or unbleached all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 c peanut butter chips
optional chocolate: melted chocolate drizzle, chocolate frosting, or add some chocolate chips, when adding peanut butter chips, if desired

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 x 9 inch baking pan. (If you use an 8 x 8 inch pan, it will take longer to cook, in the middle.)
  • 2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugars; add eggs, one at a time, and beat, until mixture is light and fluffy. Stir in peanut butter, vanilla, and water.
  • 3. In a separate mixing bowl, mix together flours with salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Stir into peanut butter mixture, and blend well. Fold in peanut butter chips. Spread batter into the prepared pan.
  • 4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top springs back, when touched. Cool, and cut, into 16 squares.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: This will make a big difference in the taste of your brownies. Choose whole wheat flour that is freshly milled, and use real butter and eggs.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing will make the brownies tough. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the brownies at the right temperature: The brownies should be baked at a moderate temperature so that they have a chance to rise and set properly. The ideal temperature is 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Don't overbake the brownies: Overbaking will make the brownies dry and crumbly. The brownies are done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let the brownies cool completely before cutting them: This will help them to hold their shape and prevent them from crumbling.

Conclusion:

These whole wheat brownies are a delicious and healthy treat that are perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make the perfect batch of brownies every time.
