WHOLE WHEAT AND FLAX WAFFLES
The original recipe was made by my nana for years and years. Then my mom made it for me growing up, and now I make these waffles myself (but with a couple of healthy changes) They still taste just as good as the did when I was a kid. We serve them sometimes for breakfast, but in our family waffles have almost always been served for dinner. When you can't think of anything else to make.

WHOLESOME WHOLE-GRAIN WAFFLES
I created this recipe by tweaking one I already had. I added flax seed, substituted whole-wheat flour for some all-purpose, applesauce for some oil and fat-free milk for whole. My family loved the changes, and now it's a favorite. -Judy Parker, Moore, Oklahoma

WHOLE GRAIN WAFFLES
I love experimenting with recipes, and I came up with this one after a lot of experimenting with my favorite waffle recipe. These are more filling than your average waffles. I use aluminum-free baking powder. These are wonderful with homemade blueberry syrup.

Tips:
- Use the right ratio of wet to dry ingredients. Too much liquid will make the waffles thin and runny, while too much dry ingredients will make them dry and crumbly. The recipe in the article uses 2 cups of wet ingredients (milk, eggs, and oil) to 2 cups of dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt).
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will develop the gluten in the flour, which will make the waffles tough. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined.
- Let the batter rest for a few minutes before cooking. This will allow the gluten to relax and will help the waffles to be more tender.
- Use a hot waffle iron. The waffle iron should be preheated to the desired temperature before cooking the waffles. This will help the waffles to cook evenly and will prevent them from sticking to the iron.
- Cook the waffles until they are golden brown. The waffles should be cooked until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.
- Serve the waffles immediately. Waffles are best served hot and fresh. They can be topped with butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.
Conclusion:
Whole wheat and flax waffles are a delicious and healthy breakfast option. They are made with whole wheat flour, which is a good source of fiber, and flaxseed, which is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. These waffles are also relatively easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy breakfast, give these whole wheat and flax waffles a try!
