Time 1h5m

Yield 1 8inch square cake

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temp
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 cup dark molasses
1 1/2 cups unbleached flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cup boiling water

Steps:

  • Cream butter, gradually add brown sugar and beat until fluffy.
  • Add egg and beat well.
  • Mix in molasses.
  • Mix dry ingredients together, add gradually to mixture.
  • Add boiling water and stir until batter is smooth, mixture will be thin.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the cake will taste. Choose fresh, organic ingredients whenever possible.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
