WHITE TRASH / TRAILER TRASH

A Kitchen Daddio variation on a holiday favorite. Easy to make; easy to clean! And kids love it! Parents, try letting your kids make it themselves (with your supervision of course!). Update 12/26/06: Hat tip to "Kat's Mom" for catching a major typo! No, it should NOT have been 60 oz. of chocolate chips. It should be 16 oz!!! Try this one again, and I promise you'll enjoy it, or I'll refund you the ingredients.

Time 5m

Yield 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup butter
1 cup peanut butter
1 (16 ounce) box Rice Chex
2 (16 ounce) boxes confectioners' sugar
1 (16 ounce) bag chocolate chips (optional)
1 (16 ounce) jar dry roasted peanuts (optional)

Steps:

  • For "WHITE TRASH," use the first four ingredients only. Or for a fun variation - add the optional chocolate chips and dry roasted peanuts to make "TRAILER TRASH!".
  • Melt butter, peanut butter (and chocolate chips) together in medium sauce pan OVER LOW HEAT. Place Rice Chex (and dry roasted peanuts) in a large container (plastic salad mixing bowls with lids work great!). Pour melted mixture over Rice Chex (and peanuts) and toss, until evenly coated throughout.
  • ---Kids love this part!---.
  • Then pour conf. sugar over mixture (1 box at a time), place lid on container, and shake shake shake! Shake well, until all the mixture is coated with sugar. Repeat with second box.
  • Serve, and enjoy!

TRAILER TRASH MIXUP

Trailer Trash Mixup image

I came up with this about 10 years ago out of sheer desperation! Flat broke, depressed, and I came home hungry for comfort food and was sick to death of Kraft Mac and Cheese! This is what I had on hand and what got me through that dark night! I'm better off financially, but I still make this at least once a month. Can substitute cooked chicken and cream of chicken soup. Warning: this is not pretty to look at, but close your eyes and taste and it will grow on you!

  • Put in microwave and heat over high heat for 2-3 minutes till thoroughly heated and cheese is melted.

ALTON BROWN'S WHITE TRASH

Alton Brown's White Trash image

Alton once posted this on his website and said that he always cranks out a bushel or two of it during the holidays. He also said "Dole this stuff out carefully. It is highly habit forming." I totally agree and for this reason have no earthly idea how many servings it makes! Depends on how much you can eat! LOL Especially good to anyone who likes the salty-sweet combination. Cooking time is cooling time.

  • Don't overcook the vegetables: Overcooked vegetables will lose their nutrients and flavor. Cook them until they are tender-crisp.
  • Use a variety of spices and herbs: Spices and herbs add flavor and depth to dishes. Experiment with different combinations to find your favorites.
  • Don't be afraid to use canned or frozen ingredients: Canned and frozen ingredients can be just as nutritious as fresh ingredients, and they can save you time and money.
  • Cook with love: The most important tip of all is to cook with love. When you cook with love, your food will taste better.
