ORANGE WHITE HOT CHOCOLATE

Orange White Hot Chocolate image

This is a very favorite winter drink of mine. Sometimes, in my family, we will make this in the middle of summer when we're craving something sweet and comforting. It's got a gentle, yet smooth, taste to it and is sure to please anyone who loves white chocolate and orange. For myself, I make a soy milk version of this since I cannot handle dairy and I love it. Serve immediately and top with orange zest, marshmallows, or whipped cream if you wish.

WHITE-HOT HOT CHOCOLATE

White-Hot Hot Chocolate image

Hot chocolate could warm you up on a cold day, but what about those unmercifully cold sub-zero days? This recipe uses a combination of spices and creamy chocolate to create a smooth drink with a lingering warmth. Garnish with a candy cane or cinnamon stick if desired.

Provided by Mikey Tarts

Categories     Drinks Recipes

Time 35m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 ¼ cups 2% milk
6 ounces white chocolate, chopped
1 egg, beaten
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Place the white chocolate in a medium metal bowl over a pan of barely simmering water, or in the top half of a double boiler. Allow the chocolate to melt, stirring occasionally until smooth. Stir in cayenne pepper and cinnamon. Whisk in the egg until smooth.
  • Gradually whisk in one cup of the milk until completely incorporated, about 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in remaining milk, and heat until hot, but not simmering. You do not want a skin to form on top of the milk. It will be ready to drink when either the taste of the cayenne is masked by the temperature of the milk (the spiciness of the pepper will remain), or when the hot chocolate is at your desired temperature. Ladle the hot chocolate into mugs and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
