A&W WHISTLE DOG

A&w Whistle Dog image

I worked at A&W in the Montreal area during my college years and, by far, these were the best "non-steamie" hot dog around! Easy to make and so tasty. In the '70s we used Canadian back bacon - nowadays, they use regular bacon - both taste great. Ohhhhh, the memories :-)

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality hot dogs. The better the hot dog, the better the whistle dog will be. Look for hot dogs that are made with fresh, high-quality meat and spices.
  • Use a good quality puff pastry. The puff pastry is what gives the whistle dogs their signature flaky crust. Make sure to use a puff pastry that is made with real butter and that is not too thick.
  • Don't overstuff the puff pastry. If you overstuff the puff pastry, the whistle dogs will be difficult to fold and they will not cook evenly.
  • Bake the whistle dogs at a high temperature. This will help the puff pastry to rise and brown quickly.
  • Serve the whistle dogs hot with your favorite dipping sauce. Whistle dogs are best enjoyed hot and fresh out of the oven.

Conclusion:

Whistle dogs are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or appetizer. They are perfect for parties or potlucks, and they are sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike.
