WHISKY BEEF
Steps:
- Preheat your slow cooker or crock pot on HIGH. Quick fry the steaks so that they are lightly braised on both sides, then place in your slow cooker or crock pot. Turn it to a low heat. Dice and fry the onion in a wok or frying pan. When the onion is golden, add the leeks and quickly fry them too. Next add the stock then stir in the chopped tomatoes Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, lemon juice, mix together and then add the Whisky (whisky lovers may find this hard to do, but it is well worth it!). Add in the thyme and seasoning and ensure it is well mixed. Take off the heat, then add the soft brown sugar, give it a quick stir. Pour the mixture over the beef and cook on LOW for approximately 6-8 hours. Serve with roast parsnips, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding.
Tips:
- Choose a suitable cut of beef. Chuck roast or beef short ribs are ideal, as they are flavorful and can withstand long cooking times.
- Brown the beef before braising. This caramelizes the beef and adds depth of flavor to the dish.
- Use a good quality whisky. A peaty or smoky whisky will add complexity to the flavor of the beef.
- Add vegetables to the braising liquid. Carrots, celery, and onions are classic additions, but you can also use other vegetables such as parsnips, turnips, or leeks.
- Season the braising liquid well. Salt, pepper, and garlic are essential, but you can also add other herbs and spices such as thyme, rosemary, or paprika.
- Cook the beef until it is fall-apart tender. This can take several hours, so be patient.
- Serve the beef with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or crusty bread.
Conclusion:
Whisky beef is a classic dish that is easy to make and always impresses. The combination of beef, whisky, and vegetables creates a rich and flavorful stew that is perfect for a cold winter night. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give whisky beef a try. You won't be disappointed.
