Join us on a culinary journey as we delve into the secrets behind this cherished dessert, unveiling two variations that cater to every baker's preference and skill level: the classic Apple Cake and the delectable Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce.
1. **Classic Washington State Apple Cake:** This faithful rendition of the traditional recipe is a symphony of simplicity and flavor. Fresh apples, generously tossed in a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, form the heart of this classic cake. A straightforward batter, combining pantry staples like flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract, provides the perfect canvas for the apples to shine. The result is an unassuming yet utterly satisfying cake that showcases the natural sweetness and tartness of apples.
2. **Washington State Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce:** This elevated version of the classic Apple Cake takes indulgence to new heights with the addition of a velvety caramel sauce. The cake itself follows the same method as the original, ensuring a moist and flavorful base. However, the crowning glory lies in the homemade caramel sauce, crafted from a luscious blend of butter, brown sugar, cream, and a touch of vanilla extract. Drizzled over warm slices of the apple cake, this luscious sauce transforms each bite into a decadent experience that lingers on the taste buds.
