3 slice bacon, chopped
1/2 onion, chopped
2 clove garlic, minced
1/4 c white wine
1 pkg frozen chopped turnip greens, thawed
12 oz cream cheese, softened
8 oz sour cream
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
3/4 c swiss cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • 1. Cook bacon in dutch oven over medium high heat for 5 minutes or until crisp. Remove bacon, and drain on paper towels, reserving 1 tablespoon of the drippings in the dutch oven.
  • 2. Saute onion and garlic in hot drippings for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • 3. Add wine and cook for 1 to 2 minutes to loosen particles from the bottom of the pan.
  • 4. Stir in turnip greens, next 4 ingredients and 1/2 cup of the cheese.

  • 6. Transfer to a lightly greased baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with remaining cheese. Broil inches from heat 4 to 5 minutes or lightly browned. Sprinkle evenly with bacon.

Tips:

  • Prep the turnips in advance: To save time, roast or boil the turnips the day before and store them in the refrigerator. This will make the dip-making process much quicker.
  • Use a good quality olive oil: The olive oil you use will make a big difference in the flavor of the dip. Choose a high-quality extra virgin olive oil that has a fruity, peppery taste.
  • Don't overcook the turnips: Turnips should be cooked until they are tender but still hold their shape. Overcooked turnips will become mushy and the dip will be less flavorful.
  • Add some fresh herbs: Fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or parsley can add a lot of flavor to the dip. Stir them in just before serving.
  • Serve the dip with a variety of accompaniments: Warm turnip green dip can be served with a variety of accompaniments, such as pita chips, crackers, bread, or vegetables. You can also use it as a spread for sandwiches or wraps.

Conclusion:

Warm turnip green dip is a delicious and healthy snack or appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With its creamy texture and slightly sweet and peppery flavor, this dip is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
