HAWAIIAN ICED TEA

Hawaiian Iced Tea image

I first tasted this tea in a popular Italian restaurant in my college hometown of Kailua. I have been craving it ever since, and have experimented with a few proportions. Add more tea leaves for a stronger tea, but do not steep longer or the tea will end up tasting bitter. (If it does, add a pinch of baking soda.) Always make something to your liking! This is also great to serve at showers.

WAIKIKI ICED TEA

Waikiki Iced Tea image

I think that this is officially the best cocktail that I have ever tasted! When I was in Hawaii a few months ago, a bartender at a luau made this for me. I asked him what it was, but he said he just made it up. He told me it was basically like a Long Island Iced Tea but a Hawaiian version, and that I could name it for him. I really wanted to think of something clever, but I figured why not just call it a Waikiki Iced Tea? So I did... Some things that makes this version unique is subbing the rum with coconut rum, and also the lemon and lime squeeze add really nice flavor, so don't leave them out! Lastly, this drink is so yummy and doesn't taste very strong-- but it is! Watch out! You'll be dancing the hula by the end of the night, for sure...!

Tips:

  • Use loose-leaf tea for a more flavorful iced tea. If you don't have loose-leaf tea, you can use tea bags, but be sure to remove them before chilling the tea.
  • Let the tea steep for at least 4 hours, or overnight, for the best flavor. The longer the tea steeps, the stronger the flavor will be.
  • Chill the tea completely before serving. You can chill the tea in the refrigerator or over ice.
  • Sweeten the tea to taste with sugar, honey, agave nectar, or your favorite sweetener.
  • Garnish the iced tea with fresh mint, lemon, or pineapple slices for a refreshing presentation.

Conclusion:

Waikiki iced tea is a refreshing and flavorful drink that is perfect for any occasion. With its combination of black tea, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and sweetener, this iced tea is sure to please everyone.
