VINEGAR COOKIES

My cousin Gail, in Downsville, LA, gave me this recipe. Her bridge club begs for them. These delicate cookies are so delicious!

Provided by Sandy Young

Categories     Cookies

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 stick parkay margarine (i use butter!)
1 c sugar
1 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp distilled vinegar
2 tsp vanilla
1 c chopped pecans

Steps:

  • 1. Beat together butter and sugar. Every time the recipe says to beat, REALLY beat!
  • 2. Sift together flour, soda, and salt; and add to the butter mixture.
  • 3. Add vinegar and vanilla. Beat!
  • 4. Add chopped pecans.
  • 5. Drop by teaspoons on buttered cookie sheet. Bake at 300 degrees for 20 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use the right vinegar: Different vinegars will produce different flavors in your cookies. For a classic vinegar cookie, use white vinegar. For a more robust flavor, try using apple cider vinegar or balsamic vinegar.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make the cookies tough. Mix the dough just until it comes together, then stop.
  • Chill the dough: Chilling the dough before baking will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just set: The cookies should be slightly soft in the center when they come out of the oven. They will continue to firm up as they cool.
  • Enjoy the cookies fresh: Vinegar cookies are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven. They can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Vinegar cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat. With their unique flavor and texture, they are sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a new cookie recipe to try, give vinegar cookies a try. You won't be disappointed!
