1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/8 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 lemon, juiced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Roasted in the oven or on the grill, these onions are simple and tasty. They taste like French onion soup, and smell great. In college I used to put it on the top of my gas stove! Still delicious just the same. Very very easy and loads of flavor.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of onions. Vidalia onions are the classic choice for this dish, but you can also use other sweet onions, such as Maui or Walla Walla onions. If you don't have sweet onions, you can use regular yellow onions, but they will have a sharper flavor.
  • Don't overcook the onions. The onions should be softened but still have a little bit of crunch. If you overcook them, they will become mushy and lose their flavor.
  • Use a good quality cheese. The cheese is one of the main ingredients in this dish, so it's important to use a good quality cheese that you enjoy. A sharp cheddar or Gruyère cheese would be a good choice.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment. There are many different ways to make kugel, so feel free to experiment with different ingredients and flavors. You can add vegetables, herbs, or even meat to your kugel.

Conclusion:

Kugel is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as a side dish or a main course. It's perfect for a potluck or a holiday meal. With its sweet onions, creamy cheese, and crispy bread crumbs, kugel is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
