VALENTINO'S PIZZA CRUST

Valentino's Pizza Crust image

My Great grandmother worked at the original Valentino's Pizza Place in Lincoln, Ne. She was nearly 80 and her job was to put the sauce on the pizza. Today, it is a chain of restaurants, buffet style. I still remember what it was like to be in the back of that busy kitchen!

Number Of Ingredients 17

Dough: 1 package yeast
1 1/2 C water
2 T sugar
4 T olive oil
2 t salt
4 C flour
Sauce: 1-8 oz can tomato sauce
1-8 oz can tomato paste
1/8 t thyme
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/4 t rosemary
1 bay leaf
1/4 t oregano
1/4 t caraway seeds
1/2 C water (optional)
Meat: choice is yours (precooked)
Cheese: 1/3 TO 1/2 lb mozzarella and monterry jack

Steps:

  • Mix dough ingredients well; knead 8-10 minutes; rise 1-2 hours. Mix sauce ingredients in saucepan; simmer and cool. Bake at 400 degrees about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Tips:

  • Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting. This will help the dough come together more easily and evenly.
  • Don't overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make it tough and chewy. Mix the dough just until it comes together, then let it rest for 10 minutes before shaping it.
  • Use a pizza stone or baking sheet for the best results. A pizza stone will give you a crispy crust, while a baking sheet will give you a softer crust.
  • Don't overcrowd the pizza. If you put too many toppings on the pizza, it will be difficult to cook evenly.
  • Bake the pizza until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. The time it takes to bake the pizza will vary depending on the thickness of the crust and the toppings you use.

Conclusion:

This recipe for Valentino's Pizza Crust is a great way to make a delicious, crispy pizza at home. The dough is easy to make and can be used for a variety of different pizzas. With a few simple tips, you can make a pizza that is sure to impress your friends and family.
