UNROLLED CABBAGE ROLLS
I started making a version of this casserole years ago because I love cabbage rolls and they take so long to prepare. I've adjusted the recipe many times but this is my current version. I have also noted lots of other recipes like this in the past couple of years so I guess it wasn't that big a leap from cabbage rolls to cabbage...

Tips for Making Unrolled Cabbage Rolls:
- Choosing the Right Cabbage: Look for a large, firm head of green cabbage with tightly packed leaves. Avoid cabbages with brown spots or wilted leaves.
- Preparing the Cabbage Leaves: Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, and then use a sharp knife to cut out the core. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for a few minutes to soften them, and then rinse them under cold water.
- Filling the Cabbage Rolls: Use a variety of fillings for your unrolled cabbage rolls, such as ground beef, pork, or turkey, rice, vegetables, and herbs. Season the filling to taste, and then spread it evenly over the cabbage leaves.
- Baking the Cabbage Rolls: Place the filled cabbage leaves in a baking dish, and then pour a tomato sauce or broth over them. Bake the cabbage rolls in a preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
- Serving the Cabbage Rolls: Serve the unrolled cabbage rolls immediately, garnished with fresh herbs and a dollop of sour cream or yogurt.
