Categories     Seafood     Fish     Tuna

Time 25m

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 (5 ounce) can tuna packed in olive oil, undrained
1 tablespoon capers, drained
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
½ pound spaghetti
½ tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until beginning to caramelize, about 10 minutes. Add tuna with oil, capers, and crushed red pepper flakes; heat through.
  • Meanwhile, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti in the boiling water for 1 minute less than the package instructs, about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup of the starchy pasta water.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the pan and mix to combine. Add some of the pasta water and toss lightly until the pasta is tender yet firm to the bite, 1 to 2 more minutes. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pint cherry tomatoes (preferably Sun Gold), halved
6 ounces olive oil-packed Italian or Spanish tuna, drained
1/2 cup black olives, pitted, torn (about 2 ounces)
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more to taste
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
1 pound thin spaghetti
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Steps:

  • Combine tomatoes, tuna, olives, parsley, pepper, 3 Tbsp. oil, and 1 tsp. salt in a large bowl.
  • Cook spaghetti in a large pot of boiling salted water, stirring occasionally, until al dente. Drain and add to tomato mixture. Stir vigorously and add more oil as needed to fully coat. Season with salt.
  • Transfer pasta to a serving bowl or platter. Drizzle with lemon juice and serve.

Tips:

  • Fresh ingredients make all the difference. Use the best quality tuna, spaghetti, and vegetables you can find.
  • Do not overcook the spaghetti. It should be al dente, or slightly firm to the bite.
  • Use a large enough baking dish so that the pie is not too thick. A 9-inch pie plate is a good size.
  • Top the pie with plenty of cheese. This will help to brown the top and make the pie gooey and delicious.
  • Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the flavors to meld and the pie to set.

Conclusion:

Tuna spaghetti pie is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual lunch. It is also a great way to use up leftover spaghetti. With its creamy filling, cheesy topping, and flaky crust, this pie is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal that is also delicious and satisfying, give tuna spaghetti pie a try. You won't be disappointed!
