Time 3h25m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

Cooking spray
8 ounces elbow macaroni, cooked
One 12-ounce can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1/4 cup (1/2 stick ) of butter, melted
1 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper
2 large eggs, beaten
Two 10-ounce bricks sharp Cheddar cheese, grated (about 5 cups)
Dash of paprika

Steps:

  • In a large 4-quart slow cooker sprayed with cooking spray, mix the macaroni, evaporated milk, milk, butter, salt, pepper, eggs and all but 1/2 cup of the grated cheese. Sprinkle the reserved cheese over the top of the mixture and then sprinkle with paprika. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 hours and 15 minutes. Turn off the slow cooker, stir the mixture and serve hot.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality cheese: The type of cheese you use will greatly affect the flavor of your macaroni and cheese. Use a cheese that melts well and has a strong flavor, such as cheddar, Gruyère, or Parmesan.
  • Cook the macaroni al dente: Macaroni that is cooked too soft will become mushy and overcooked in the macaroni and cheese. Cook the macaroni al dente, or slightly firm to the bite, so that it will hold its shape and texture in the dish.
  • Make a roux: A roux is a mixture of butter and flour that is used to thicken sauces. Making a roux will help to create a smooth and creamy macaroni and cheese.
  • Use milk and cream: Milk and cream add richness and flavor to macaroni and cheese. Use a combination of whole milk and heavy cream for the best results.
  • Season the macaroni and cheese: Season the macaroni and cheese with salt, pepper, and other spices to taste. You can also add other ingredients, such as cooked bacon, crumbled sausage, or diced vegetables, to add flavor and texture.
  • Bake the macaroni and cheese: Baking the macaroni and cheese will help to brown the top and create a crispy crust. You can also broil the macaroni and cheese for a few minutes at the end of baking to create a golden brown crust.

Conclusion:

Macaroni and cheese is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. By following these tips, you can make a macaroni and cheese that is creamy, cheesy, and delicious.
