Tips:

  • Choosing the Right Noodles: Use egg noodles specifically designed for kugel. They hold their shape well and absorb the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Soaking the Noodles: Before cooking the noodles, soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents them from sticking together.
  • Cooking the Noodles: Cook the noodles according to the package instructions, but drain them a few minutes before they are fully cooked. This will ensure that they retain a slightly firm texture.
  • Adding the Eggs: Beat the eggs well before adding them to the noodles. This will help to create a smooth and creamy texture.
  • Seasoning the Kugel: Don't be afraid to experiment with different seasonings. Common additions include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Baking the Kugel: Bake the kugel in a preheated oven until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This usually takes about 45-50 minutes.
  • Serving the Kugel: Serve the kugel hot or cold, depending on your preference. It can be enjoyed as a main course or a side dish.
