TRADITIONAL BRUNSWICK STEW
Folks moving to this part of the country (Georgia) often fall in love with Brunswick Stew, usually a side dish at barbecue restaurants. This version is delicious but simple to make. People feud over whether the stew should have potatoes and lima beans in it, but this is a purist stew (except for the sneaky addition of potato flakes).

QUICK, EASY, DELICIOUS, BRUNSWICK STEW
I originally saw the basic recipe in a Southern Living Magazine Cookbook and added my own ingredients to fine tune the flavors. It is really as close as you can get to the real thing. This is a hearty meal in itself or serve with cornbread and a salad and everyone will think you have been cooking for hours. You wont be disappointed.

Steps:
- Boil chicken in chicken stock, cool then shred.
- Bring all ingredients to a boil in Dutch oven over medium-high heat, stirring often.
- Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, 25 minutes or until thoroughly heated.
Tips:
- Choose the right meat: Brunswick stew traditionally uses squirrel, rabbit, or chicken, but you can also use beef, pork, or lamb. If you're using game meat, be sure to soak it in buttermilk or vinegar before cooking to remove any gamy flavor.
- Brown the meat well: Browning the meat before adding it to the stew will help to develop its flavor and give the stew a richer color.
- Use a variety of vegetables: Brunswick stew is a great way to use up leftover vegetables. Some common vegetables used in Brunswick stew include corn, potatoes, carrots, celery, and okra.
- Season the stew well: Brunswick stew should be well-seasoned with salt, pepper, and other spices. Some common spices used in Brunswick stew include thyme, basil, oregano, and garlic powder.
- Simmer the stew for a long time: Brunswick stew is a slow-cooked dish that benefits from simmering for several hours. This allows the flavors to develop and the meat to become tender.
Conclusion:
Brunswick stew is a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It's also a great way to use up leftover meat and vegetables. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make Brunswick stew at home. So next time you're looking for a comforting and flavorful meal, give Brunswick stew a try. You won't be disappointed!
