MINT ICED TEA

Mint Iced Tea image

This fresh brewed mint iced tea beverage recipe from Paula Deen is a southern drink perfect for summer cookouts. Ingredients include fresh mint, lemon, sugar and family size tea bags. Prep time is about 15 minutes and cooking time is 15 minutes on the stove-top.

Provided by Paula Deen

Time 15m

Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 quart water
4 family size tea bags
2 cups sugar
1 bunch mint
1 slices for garnish lemon

Steps:

  • In a large pot bring the water to a boil. Remove pot from heat, add the tea bags, cover with a lid, and allow tea to steep in water for 20 minutes. Take a 1 gallon jug and pour the sugar into the jug and cover with some hot tap water. Stir the sugar around to dissolve while the tea is steeping. Once the tea has steeped, remove the lid and the tea bags. Pour the tea into the jug with the sugar, stir, and place the tea bags back into the jug and run them under hot tap water to release any additional flavors. Stir the tea well making sure the sugar dissolves. Fill the jug with cold water to yield 1 gallon.
  • To serve, pour each glass of tea and garnish with a slice of lemon and mint leaves.

Tips:

  • Choose the right tea. Black tea, green tea, and herbal tea can all be used to make iced tea. Black tea is the most common type of tea used for iced tea, as it has a strong flavor that stands up well to the dilution of ice. Green tea is a lighter option with a more delicate flavor. Herbal tea is a caffeine-free option that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
  • Use fresh mint. Fresh mint leaves add a refreshing flavor to iced tea. If you don't have fresh mint, you can use dried mint leaves, but they will not have as strong of a flavor.
  • Sweeten to taste. Iced tea can be sweetened with sugar, honey, or agave syrup. The amount of sweetener you add will depend on your personal preference.
  • Serve over ice. Iced tea is best served over ice. You can use regular ice cubes or crushed ice.

Conclusion:

Iced tea is a refreshing and delicious drink that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you are looking for a cool and refreshing drink, give iced tea a try!
