Fried Green Tomatoes with Horseradish Cream image

Provided by Guy Fieri

Time 30m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

4 large green tomatoes
1 cup white cornmeal
1 cup panko bread crumbs
2 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
2 teaspoons freshly cracked black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup yogurt, divided
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup horseradish
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1 quart corn oil, for frying

Steps:

  • Wash, dry and slice the tomatoes into 3/8-inch thick. Transfer the tomatoes to a paper towel to drain.
  • Combine the cornmeal, panko bread crumbs, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, and cayenne in a shallow bowl.
  • In a second shallow bowl, combine the buttermilk and half of the yogurt.
  • Meanwhile, combine the sour cream, remaining yogurt, horseradish, lemon zest, lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt to make the horseradish cream. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
  • Heat the oil in a cast iron pan to 365 degrees F.
  • Dip the sliced tomatoes in the buttermilk mixture and shake off any excess. Press them into the panko mixture and repeat until all the tomato slices have been coated.
  • Carefully lower the battered slices, in batches, into the hot oil. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on both sides, then move them to a wire rack to drain. Sprinkle them with remaining salt while they are still hot. Arrange them on a serving platter and serve immediately with the horseradish cream.

TOMATO SAUCE WITH HORSERADISH RECIPE

Tomato Sauce with Horseradish Recipe image

Provided by Dianewaldron

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 tablespoon butter
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon finely minced garlic (I use 2 garlic cloves)
1 tablespoon flour
1 1/2 cup diced-peeled tomatoes-well drained (large can)
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons horseradish

Steps:

  • Heat butter in saucepan and add onions and garlic. Cook, stirring until onions are wilted. Sprinkle with flour and stir to blend. Add tomatoes-salt and pepper to taste. Blend well and simmer stirring occasionally about 10 minutes. Stir in horseradish adding more according to taste and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes. This will ensure that your sauce has the best possible flavor. You can use fresh, canned, or frozen tomatoes, but fresh tomatoes will give you the best results.
  • Use a variety of herbs and spices. This will add depth and complexity to the flavor of your sauce. Some good options include basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, garlic, and onion.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot. If you add too many tomatoes to the pot, they will not cook evenly and the sauce will be watery. Cook the tomatoes in batches if necessary.
  • Simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop. You can simmer the sauce for longer if you want a thicker, more concentrated flavor.
  • Add the horseradish at the end of cooking. This will prevent the horseradish from losing its flavor.

Conclusion:

Horseradish tomato sauce is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be used on a variety of dishes. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like it spicy or mild, sweet or tangy, there is a horseradish tomato sauce recipe out there for you.
