My own invention, a quick and easy "something". I thought it would make a nice combination, and wasn't disappointed. Whenever available, I substitute fresh basil for the dried spice.

BASIL AND TOMATO RELISH FOR STEAK
This is a wonderful way to use fresh basil and tomato from the garden and a steak on the grill. You might not have had a vegetable relish on steak before and neither had my husband or myself. We were delighted with the flavor mixed with the steak. You'll need a way to saute the vegetables on the grill, such as a grilling basket. Skewers are also an alternative. Adapted from Food and Wine.

Tips:
- Choose high-quality ingredients: For the best results, use ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, and tender steak. Look for tomatoes that are deep red and firm, with no blemishes. Choose basil leaves that are bright green and fragrant. And select steak that is well-marbled and has a good amount of fat.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: When searing the steak, make sure to give it plenty of space in the pan so that it can sear properly. If you overcrowd the pan, the steak will steam instead of sear, and it will end up tough and chewy.
- Cook the steak to your desired doneness: The cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of the steak and how done you want it to be. For a rare steak, cook it for 2-3 minutes per side. For a medium-rare steak, cook it for 3-4 minutes per side. And for a medium steak, cook it for 4-5 minutes per side.
- Let the steak rest before slicing: Once you have cooked the steak, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, making it more tender and flavorful.
- Serve the steak with your favorite sides: This recipe is great served with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple green salad. You can also add a dollop of sour cream or crème fraîche to the top of the steak for a richer flavor.
Conclusion:
This tomato basil steak recipe is a delicious and easy way to prepare steak. The combination of juicy tomatoes, fragrant basil, and tender steak is sure to please everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a quick and flavorful weeknight meal, give this recipe a try!
