This is so simple. Reminds me of a Margherita Pizza. Very flavorful. I also think the sauce would also taste great on a panini sandwich, though I've never tried it.

Tips:

  • Mise en place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and equipment ready. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling around in the middle of the recipe.
  • Use ripe tomatoes: The riper the tomatoes, the sweeter and more flavorful your squares will be. Look for tomatoes that are deep red and have no blemishes.
  • Fresh herbs: Fresh basil and oregano add a delicious flavor to these squares. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use 1 teaspoon of dried basil and 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the squares tough. Stir just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the squares until they are just set: Overbaking the squares will make them dry. Bake them just until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Conclusion:

Tomato basil squares are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or appetizer. They are perfect for parties or potlucks, or simply to enjoy as a quick and healthy snack. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and satisfying treat that the whole family will love.
