TOFFEE NUT BARS

Toffee Nut Bars image

When I was a kid my Grandma used to make these, Grandma was always in the kitchen, just like her sisters. Family and kids first, on Christmas Eve my sister was talking about them and said she had the recipe, so I figured holidays, family, neighbors, great time to bring back some old memories and I made them. Well they came out...

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 13

CRUST
1/2 c butter, softened
1/2 c brown sugar
1 c flour
TOPPING MIXTURE
2 eggs, separated
1 c brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 c coconut
2 Tbsp flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 c chopped pecans

Steps:

  • 1. Crust. Cream butter; add brown sugar & cream well. Add flour to creamed mixture and work it into a dough with your hands. Pat into an ungreased 9" sq. pand and bake 10 mins. in oven at 350.
  • 2. Topping. Beat egg whites until light, then stir in brown sugar & mix well. Add vanilla. Set aside. Sift flour, baking powder & salt together and stir into the brown sugar mixture. Beat until smooth. Add nuts & coconut, mix well. Spread evenly over slightly cooled baked bottom layer in the pan. Bake 25 mins. in oven at 350. Cool & cut into squares.
  • 3. Can double & bake on a cookie sheet about 1 1/2 inch deep. This is how I make them...

Tips:

  • Use fresh toffee bits: Fresh toffee bits will give your bars a more intense toffee flavor. If you can't find fresh toffee bits, you can use store-bought toffee chips, but they won't be as flavorful.
  • Don't overcook the bars: The bars are done when the edges are golden brown and the center is set. If you overcook the bars, they will be dry and crumbly.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting them: This will help to prevent them from falling apart.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature: The bars will keep for up to 3 days at room temperature.

Conclusion:

These toffee nut bars are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. They're made with a simple combination of oats, flour, butter, brown sugar, toffee bits, and nuts. The bars are then baked until they're golden brown and set. Once cooled, they're cut into bars and served. These toffee nut bars are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them!
