A recipe from Bob's Red Mill Flaxseed sounded interesting because I have been looking for ways to include more Omega-3's in our diet. The whole wheat and flaxseed in this recipe intrigued me, so I made a couple of adaptations and tried it. It was nice!

Time 3h30m

Yield 1 loaf, 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/4 cups skim milk
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 cups unbleached white flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup milled flax seed
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
1 tablespoon poppy seed
2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Steps:

  • Add ingredients to bread machine in the order recommended by the bread machine manufacturer and select the basic dough cycle.
  • When dough is complete, dump it out onto lightly oiled baking sheet and roll it into a loaf. Spray top lightly with oil.
  • Proof in oven for about an hour.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes or until browned.
  • Let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start baking, make sure you have all your ingredients and equipment ready. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling.
  • Use Fresh Ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your bread will taste. If possible, use organic or locally-sourced ingredients.
  • Measure Accurately: Baking is a science, so it's important to measure your ingredients accurately. Use a kitchen scale for the most precise measurements.
  • Don't Overmix the Dough: Overmixing the dough will make the bread tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Let the Dough Rise Properly: The rising time allows the yeast to ferment and produce gas, which will give your bread a light and airy texture. Make sure to let the dough rise in a warm place, free from drafts.
  • Bake the Bread at the Right Temperature: The baking temperature will vary depending on the type of bread you're making. Follow the recipe carefully and use an oven thermometer to ensure the oven is at the correct temperature.
  • Let the Bread Cool Completely: Once the bread is baked, let it cool completely before slicing and serving. This will help the bread retain its moisture and flavor.

Conclusion:

With a little practice, you'll be able to bake delicious three-seed bread at home. Experiment with different types of seeds and flours to create your own unique recipes. And don't be afraid to get creative with your toppings! With a little imagination, you can turn a simple loaf of bread into a delicious and memorable meal.
