I love cooking, but I'm not into fancy gourmet foods. I think it's more challenging to make delicious, down-home foods like this beefy casserole with ingredients easily found in the refrigerator and on my pantry shelves. -Marjorie Carey, Alamosa, Colorado

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Pasta Shells: Jumbo pasta shells are ideal for this recipe as they can hold a generous amount of filling. Make sure to cook the shells according to the package instructions until they are al dente (slightly firm to the bite).
  • Prepare the Filling in Advance: To save time, you can make the cheese filling ahead of time and refrigerate it until ready to assemble the shells. This will also allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Use Fresh Herbs: Fresh herbs like basil, oregano, and thyme add a burst of flavor to the filling. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but be sure to use half the amount.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Pan: When browning the ground beef, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the meat from cooking evenly and will result in a watery sauce. Cook the beef in batches if necessary.
  • Use a Variety of Cheeses: The combination of ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses creates a rich and flavorful filling. You can also experiment with other types of cheese, such as cheddar, fontina, or Gruyère.
  • Bake Until Golden Brown: Bake the stuffed shells until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the shells are golden brown. This will ensure that the shells are cooked through and the filling is heated evenly.

Conclusion:

This three-cheese jumbo shells recipe is a delicious and satisfying meal that is perfect for any occasion. With its combination of savory fillings, creamy cheese sauce, and crispy pasta shells, this dish will surely be a hit with everyone at the table.
