Categories     Tomato     Sauce

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 tablespoons Olive Oil
1 clove Garlic
28 ounces Can Crushed Tomatoes
6 ounces Can Tomato Paste
1/2 tablespoon Sugar
3/4 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Basil
1/2 teaspoon Dried Oregano
1 Freshly Cracked Pepper
1 pinch Crushed Red Pepper

Steps:

  • Add olive oil and garlic to a sauce pot and cook over medium heat for 1-2 mins or just until garlic is soft and fragrant.
  • Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, salt, basil, oregano, some freshly cracked pepper (10-15 cranks of pepper mill) and pinch of red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
  • Cover the pot, allow the pot to come to simmer, then reduce heat to low and let simmer for 15 mins. Minimum or up to 30 mins...let simmer little longer if needed.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality tomatoes: Fresh, ripe tomatoes will give your pizza sauce the best flavor. If you're using canned tomatoes, choose whole tomatoes that are packed in juice, not water.
  • Roast your tomatoes: Roasting tomatoes intensifies their flavor and sweetness. You can roast them in a hot oven or on a grill.
  • Simmer your sauce: Simmering the sauce for at least 30 minutes allows the flavors to meld and develop. The longer you simmer it, the thicker and more flavorful it will become.
  • Add herbs and spices: Herbs and spices can add a lot of flavor to your pizza sauce. Some popular additions include basil, oregano, garlic, and red pepper flakes.
  • Taste your sauce as you go: Be sure to taste your sauce throughout the cooking process and adjust the seasonings as needed.

Conclusion:

With a little time and effort, you can make a delicious, thick pizza sauce at home. Use these tips to create a sauce that will impress your family and friends. Once you've mastered the basics, you can experiment with different ingredients and flavors to create your own unique pizza sauce recipe.
