MARGARITAS FOR A CROWD

Margaritas for a Crowd image

Provided by Food Network

Categories     beverage

Time 30m

Yield 20 to 24 old-fashioned margaritas

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 750-milliliter bottle silver tequila (use a high-quality, 100 percent agave tequila)
1 to 2 cups (1/3 to 2/3 of a 750-milliliter bottle) Cointreu or Triple Sec
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice, plus several tablespoons extra for rimming the glasses
Several tablespoons coarse kosher-type salt, for rimming the glasses
About 1 gallon ice cubes

Steps:

  • Just before serving, in a half gallon pitcher combine the tequila, the minimum amount of Cointreau or Triple Sec and the lime juice. Taste and add more orange liqueur if you think your margaritas need more sweet oranginess to balance the other flavors. Remember, you're tasting it warm and undiluted; when chilled and diluted, the flavors will be mellower and the lime's tartness will be more attractive.
  • Pour several tablespoons of lime juice onto a small plate and several tablespoons coarse salt onto another. Have martini glasses at hand (chill them for an extra special touch).
  • As your guests ask for their margaritas, invert a glass into the plate with the lime juice to moisten rim, then lightly dip into the plate with the salt. For each drink measure 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of the margarita mixture into a cocktail shaker. If you have a 2-ounce ladle that you can keep in the pitcher, measuring goes much faster. Add ice cubes (5 cubes for 1, 8 for 2, 10 for 3). Secure the lid and top and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds. Strain into the salt crusted glasses and hand off to the lucky recipients

PARTY MARGARITAS

Party Margaritas image

A large quantity of Margaritas suitable for a cooler at a party. I tried different ratios and this one tasted closest to a "classic" Margarita. Uses whole quantities so no leftover ingredients. (Save an empty tequila bottle for any remaining Margarita and keep in refrigerator for instant cocktails.)

Time 10m

Yield 100 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (1 3/4 liter) bottles tequila
1 (750 ml) bottle triple sec
3 (12 ounce) cans limeade
2 quarts water
1 gallon ice
12 limes
1/2 cup kosher salt
plastic cups, 6 oz like airlines use

Steps:

  • In a 5 gallon sports drink cooler dump in the tequila, triple sec and limeade. Add a quart of water and the ice. Mix or close cooler and shake until chilled. There should still be ice left. Taste. Add remaining water to taste. The mixture should come approximately to the 3 gallon line. Leave a little strong because over the next few hours more ice will melt.
  • Cut limes into eighths. Put salt into saucer.
  • Squeeze lime wedge around rim of cup. Touch cup rim to salt. Drop lime in glass. Dispense Margarita.

Tips:

  • Use fresh lime juice. Fresh lime juice is essential for a great margarita. Bottled lime juice just doesn't have the same flavor.
  • Chill your ingredients. Chilling your ingredients will help to create a smooth, refreshing margarita.
  • Use a good quality tequila. The tequila is the main ingredient in a margarita, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a tequila that is 100% agave.
  • Don't over-shake your margarita. Over-shaking your margarita will make it cloudy and foamy. Shake it just until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Serve your margarita with a lime wedge and a sprinkle of salt. This is the classic way to serve a margarita and it's the best way to enjoy it.

Conclusion:

The margarita is a classic cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With these tips, you can make the perfect margarita every time.
