Steps:
- Place steak in a shallow baking dish or a resealable plastic bag. In a small bowl, whisk together red wine, oil, mustard, garlic, rosemary, and black pepper. Pour marinade over steak; turn to coat. Let marinate, covered, in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours and up to 24.
Tips:
- Choose the Right Cut of Steak: Select a steak that is suitable for marinating, such as flank steak, skirt steak, or hanger steak. These cuts are flavorful and tenderize well in a marinade.
- Use Good Quality Red Wine: The red wine you use in the marinade will greatly impact the flavor of the steak. Opt for a full-bodied red wine with bold flavors, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Zinfandel.
- Don't Overcrowd the Marinade: Make sure the steak is fully submerged in the marinade, but avoid overcrowding the container. This will allow the marinade to penetrate the steak evenly.
- Refrigerate the Marinade: Always marinate the steak in the refrigerator to prevent bacterial growth. The ideal marinating time is anywhere from 4 hours to overnight.
- Bring the Steak to Room Temperature Before Cooking: Before cooking the steak, remove it from the marinade and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This will help ensure even cooking.
- Discard the Marinade: Do not reuse the marinade after it has been in contact with raw meat. Discard it to prevent the spread of bacteria.
Conclusion:
Marinating steak in a red wine and rosemary marinade is an excellent way to enhance its flavor and tenderness. By following these tips, you can create a delicious and memorable steak dish that is perfect for any occasion. Remember to choose a good quality cut of steak, use a full-bodied red wine, marinate the steak for an appropriate amount of time, and cook it to perfection. With a little effort, you can enjoy a restaurant-quality steak in the comfort of your own home.
