Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 tablespoons smoked paprika or paprika
3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
6 pounds St. Louis-style pork spareribs or Baby Back ribs (see note)
1 24 ounce jar Barbecue Sauce (Blue's Hog original is superb)
¼ cup cider vinegar (if the barbecue sauce is on the sweet side)

Steps:

  • Set the slow cooker to LOW and spray with nonstick cooking spray. (I always spray the underside of the lid to help with cleanup.)
  • Remove the silver membrane from the back of the ribs. Here's a video with instructions. (You might have bought ribs with the membrane removed, and if so, skip this step.)
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper and red pepper flakes. Rub the dry-rub mix evenly over the ribs.
  • Brush both sides of the rib with barbecue sauce and set the ribs in the slow cooker standing upright with the meaty side against the inside wall, of the slow cooker.
  • Pour the remaining barbecue sauce over the ribs. If using a sweet sauce, pour the cider vinegar over the ribs.
  • Cover and cook on LOW 5-6 hours or until the meat is fork-tender.
  • Serve with additional store-bought barbecue sauce or strain the juices, from the pan, through a fine-mesh strainer into a medium saucepan.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer 15-20 minutes or until the mixture has reduced to 2 cups.
  • To serve, slice the meat between the bones and serve with barbecue sauce.
  • Enjoy!

These are the best I've had, short of the actual grilling method of course! This is a very simple recipe that I came up with a few years ago. It's not rocket science, just ribs cooked in the slow cooker and finished in the oven. This is what I do when I want ribs during the week and have to work all day. I'm eating them within a half-hour of getting home, and they turn out perfect every time!

Yes, you can cook ribs in a slow cooker! In this easy recipe, the seasoning paste transforms into a savory dipping sauce. Slather it on the ribs and pop them on the grill just before serving for a final char.

Categories     main-dish

Time 4h40m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

One 6-ounce can tomato paste
1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground mustard seeds
2 teaspoons granulated garlic
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 racks baby back ribs (about 3 pounds)
Oil, for grilling

Steps:

  • Whisk the tomato paste, brown sugar, vinegar, chili powder, mustard, garlic, paprika, Worcestershire, 1 1/2 tablespoons salt and 1 teaspoon pepper in the insert of a 6-quart slow cooker until smooth. Cut each rack of ribs in half and add to the slow cooker. Use your hands to rub the sauce on to the ribs. Cover with a lid and cook on low heat until tender, about 4 hours.
  • Gently transfer the ribs to a baking sheet and cool for at least 20 minutes; this will help maintain the shape of the ribs as they grill. Whisk the sauce at the bottom of the slow cooker until smooth. Reserve 1/4 cup of the sauce to brush on to the ribs and save any remaining sauce to serve on the side (it will thicken as it cools).
  • Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates. Grill the ribs, top-side down, until lightly charred in parts, 3 to 5 minutes. Flip, brush the top side of the ribs with the reserved barbecue sauce and grill until the underside of the ribs are lightly charred in parts, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove to a platter and serve immediately with the extra barbecue sauce on the side.

This is my own finger licking good recipe that is a hit every time and you don't even have to fire up the barbie!

Time 7h10m

Yield 5 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

3/4 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 lbs beef ribs
0.75 (16 ounce) bottle barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Combine rub ingredients mixing well.
  • Rub on all sides of ribs.
  • Place ribs meaty side up in crock pot.
  • Cover; cook on low for 6 hours.
  • Drain the grease from the crock.
  • Place the ribs back in and cover with bbq sauce.
  • Cook for another hour.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: For the best results, use pork spare ribs or baby back ribs. Spare ribs are meatier and have more flavor, while baby back ribs are leaner and more tender.
  • Trim the ribs: Remove any excess fat or connective tissue from the ribs before cooking. This will help the ribs cook evenly and prevent them from becoming tough.
  • Season the ribs: Season the ribs generously with your favorite dry rub or marinade. This will help to enhance the flavor of the ribs and create a delicious crust.
  • Cook the ribs on low heat: Cook the ribs on low heat for a long period of time. This will help the ribs to become fall-off-the-bone tender and prevent them from drying out.
  • Use a liquid to keep the ribs moist: Add a small amount of liquid to the crock pot, such as water, broth, or apple juice. This will help to keep the ribs moist and prevent them from becoming dry.
  • Cook the ribs until they are fall-off-the-bone tender: The ribs are done cooking when they are fall-off-the-bone tender. This usually takes about 6-8 hours on low heat.
  • Serve the ribs with your favorite sides: Serve the ribs with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw, baked beans, or potato salad.

Conclusion:

Crock pot barbecue ribs are an easy and delicious way to enjoy this classic dish. By following these tips, you can make sure that your ribs turn out perfect every time. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy meal, give crock pot barbecue ribs a try.
